The Baker Evolution
Baker Historic District, the oldest neighborhood in Denver is now vibrant and urban, and is even considered to be the up and coming neighborhood in the real estate community. With homes dating back to the 19th century, it is now a place of rapid development with Victorian homes standing side by side funky old bungalows, newer condominiums, and remodeled duplexes. New apartments are also making its way fast into this historic neighborhood much sooner than anticipated.
Baker is bordered by Broadway, Mississippi, 6th Avenue, and the South Platte River. First developed in the 1870s, Baker boasts of a colorful past and plays a significant role in the history of Denver. Today, it is home to more than 5,000 residents and to local businesses that scream hip and young. Nightspots, retails stores, galleries, antique shops, and coffee houses dot the lines that make up this old-soul of a neighborhood.
Houses that have been occupied for the last 30 years are now giving way to a younger generation. The neighborhood with its preserved historic homes gracefully coincides with a modern ambiance and an urban lifestyle. The diversity of the urban population and a strong sense of community make for an attractive Baker neighborhood.
The mash-up of old and new, and with developments on a high roll, Baker to this day is still a continuing evolution. It’s like coming home to an ancestral place in the countryside only to open the window and see you’re actually in the center of a bustling city…and still feel right at home exactly where you should be.
