Estes Park Jazz Fest It’s officially the new season – Spring has arrived! Hence, we welcome the busy festival season. By the month of May, we would have packed away our cool clothing ensemble and have taken out our warm clothing essentials. Dust off those flip-flops too for a month of merry happenings!

Get ready for some of these warm-weather embracing events in May 2014 that Colorado can look forward to.

 

Estes Park Jazz Fest & Art Walk: May 17–18, 2014

Estes Park is a sight to behold when Grammy-nominated jazz singers and the finest national and regional jazz artists come together for the annual Estes Park Jazz Fest free concert series in the outdoor amphitheater at Performance Park. The Estes Park Jazz Fest has become Colorado’s premier jazz festival noted for its commitment in excellence in Jazz music. In the area are also talented local artists displaying their paintings, pottery, prints, jewelry and other art pieces in the Elkhorn Avenue’s galleries. All these while taking in the beauty of the park for two days of sensory overload listening to the best Jazz music and admiring great works of art.

 

Buena Vista PaddleFest: May 23–26, 2014

Buena Vista Paddlefest - the kick-off to the much anticipated Colorado rafting season – is an exciting event held at the banks of the Arkansas River, one of the nation’s most popular whitewater destinations. Top playboat athletes take part in the freestyle competition at the Buena Vista Whitewater Park.

 

Boulder Creek Festival: May 24–26, 2014

Memorial Day weekend marks the start of outdoor festivals in the foothills college town of Boulder with its Boulder Creek Festival. Live music, street dancing, carnival rides, the crowd-fave Great Rubber Duck Race for a good cause, and yes, a beer garden, highlight this festival as one of the best in Colorado. Have your fill of various goodies with vendors offering all sorts of merchandise and services from reflexology treatments to handcrafted jewelry and locally made chocolates. Think: fun, fun, fun!

Boulder Creek Festival

 

Tri Montrose: May TBD, 2014

Montrose brings spring to a whole new level with three big events on one May weekend! There’s the Montrose Wine & Food Festival, which features the best of national and regional chefs cooking up their finest, well-known specialties. There’s the 36th Annual Black Canyon Ascent held at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, a race with runners and walkers navigating more than 2,000 foot elevation from the valley floor to the rim of the canyon. No wonder this has been dubbed as Colorado’s toughest six-mile road race!

Capping off the weekend event is the 9th Annual Spring Cycling Event titled “Mission to Ride,” which takes place along the canyon’s rim. Different categories cater to different levels of cycling enthusiasts. There are the 100-mile (non-competitive), 40-mile and 60-mile road routes, and the laid-back-let’s-take-in-the-view 30-mile out-and-back route to Olathe to sign up for!

 

Junior College Baseball World Series: May–June TBD, 2014

Of course, Colorado wouldn’t be Colorado without a major sports event. Hail the Junior College Baseball World Series! For the last 54 years, this tournament held at the Grand Junction offers a wonderful opportunity for baseball fans to witness young players from all over the country showing their baseball prowess before they even hit the big leagues. Talk about seeing it all before it all started. Every year, players from the National Junior College Athletic Association are selected in Major League Baseball’s draft. The 19-game series is a much-awaited event of the year.
